New Educational Series - Canaries In Colour

This is an animated collage of the eponymous text, interspersed with spirograph drawings and somewhat beholden to its soundtrack.

Jill Connor's animation is earnest, but somewhat amateurish. It feels forced, as if too much is being attempted. It's not clear if some parts of the animation were done on a computer, or step by step with papercraft, and while this ought not to matter the presence of scanner artifacts attracts more attention than the rest of the film.

The art of the book itself is well executed, but credit for that ought to go to its illustrators rather than the animator. The music supplied by John Payne isn't awful, but he's a former member of Prog supergroup Asia and thanks to the nature of the music industry he's also a member of Prog supergroup Asia Featuring John Payne. Without meaning to be too harsh, it's hard to find nice things to say about this film, and that's its biggest problem.
